Overview

The Trades Discovery Program allows you to earn high school credits while experiencing four different trades (such as carpentry, metal fabrication, professional cook, millwright, etc.). This program is available to both high school students and adults who have completed grade 9.

How it works

The Trades Discovery Program is a 300-hour program run through PornÑо¿Ëùin partnership with a School District. The program is open to both high school students and adults who have successfully completed grade 9.

The program begins with a Core Skills component to get students ready for college and offers an introduction to industry in the community, careers in the trades, tours and relevant speakers. Students then continue to take four subsequent components that will introduce them to various trades.

What you will learn

This hands-on program will take place mostly in a shop environment allowing you to gain practical trades experience. You will work on a variety of projects under the guidance of instructors, in CNC's state of the art trades training facilities.

Additionally, you will spend time in the classroom learning how to:

  • Attain an apprenticeship in British Columbia
  • Develop career planning and entrepreneurship tools
  • Develop trades based essential skills

Outcomes and opportunities

Upon completion of the Trades Discovery Program you will have gained new friends and new skills including collaborative teamwork, communication, and workplace safety. Those who complete this program during high school will also have gained high school credits, entry-level technical experience in four trades, and a PornÑо¿ËùTrades Discovery Certificate.

Trades Discovery Courses

The Trades Discovery program is designed to allow students to explore a minimum of four different trades, allowing students to try a trade before committing to a full program. Students will be introduced to career planning/entrepreneurial tools, essential skills training occupational health and safety courses, and practical project based learning within the four trades. This program will promote working in a safe, respectful and productive environment and prepare students for applying to a foundation program, or seeking an apprenticeship.
